Meet Owner, Karin Richard
OAR is locally owned and operated by Cody resident Karin Richard. Karin has been physically active her entire life. She competed successfully at the state and national level in karate as a teenager. As an adult Karin worked as a wellness consultant, personal trainer, fitness supervisor and aquatics director. Karin maintained an active lifestyle by strength training, swimming, mountain biking, road running and trail running.
One evening when she was in her late 30's Karin found herself flipping through TV channels and came across a show on the Discovery Channel called Eco-Challenge. The show was about a multi-day, multi-discipline, outdoor and off-road team sport called Adventure Racing. Karin watched the drama of the race unfold as teams kayaked, canoed, ran, hiked, mountain biked, rappelled and navigated their way through hundreds of miles of untamed back country, and even though she knew little about the outdoors at the time she was hooked.
After a lot of learning and training (and gear buying!), Karin entered her first race in North Carolina a year later. That six hour race was the first of many races over the course of the next seven years, throughout the eastern part of the country. She never raced a sprint race again, quickly learning that multi-day races were both her strength and her passion. Karin's racing efforts culminated in qualifying for and competing at the Adventure Racing National Championships in 2008.
After leaving government work with municipal parks and recreation departments, Karin moved with her husband LC and dog out west, before eventually settling in Wyoming. She loves the outdoors and loves hiking, kayaking and mountain biking in WY, where adventure is right outside your front door. Her background as an athlete and outdoor enthusiast was the genesis for OAR. Karin knows outdoor gear, loves to talk about outdoor gear and outdoor adventures, and especially enjoys helping others to find their way to the trail head.
