A guy I knew was having a sale yesterday. Or.............at least I THOUGHT I knew him. He is an extraordinary man who moved here from Israel with his wife a few years ago. An overachiever in his home land who has struggled since immigrating here, trying to find his footing in a new home and new country. None of that mattered yesterday, because the man had outdoor gear for sale and I was intent on scooping up everything that I could find and afford to buy for OAR. With many other people milling around me just as eager to make purchases, I quickly made a pile of what I thought I could use, and after settling on a price I happily drove my Tahoe home filled with new (to me) gear.
After dumping all my great finds on the floor in the middle of the living room I pulled out my lap top and started researching what I had. Research was going smoothly until I ran into a snag when I started looking up the gear in the picture above. I had never heard of the brand name, but I now had two well made packs, three beautiful summer sleeping bags, and two mosquito nets all stamped with the same logo footprint and word Trekking, taking up half the living room. I could find nothing on the Internet about Trekking. Finally I sent a message to the guy I had bought them from, asking him where he had bought this gear. Within a couple of minutes I received a message back telling me that this was HIS brand. That he had made and sold this gear in Israel. Looking at the tags on the gear they were all in Hebrew.
Taking another (closer) look at the gear it was obvious that it was all professionally manufactured and great quality. I was stunned quite frankly. I had no idea that this guy knew anything about outdoor gear (or more specifically - developing, manufacturing, marketing or selling outdoor gear). It adds another layer to an already complex individual
You just never know about people.
